Twystory, Twyford Local History Group

Discover the people, places and stories that have shaped our local area with Twystory, the Twyford Local History Group.

Twystory explores and preserves the history of Twyford, Charndon, Poundon and Calvert, bringing together centuries of local stories, records, photographs and memories. The group was founded in 2019 to gather the history of the villages and their residents and make it accessible to the wider community.

Throughout the year, Twystory holds local history talks at Twyford Village Hall, providing an opportunity to discover more about the people, buildings, events and changing way of life that have shaped the area.

The group's research reaches from Twyford's medieval and Domesday origins through village life, farming, churches and historic homes to the Great Central Railway, Calvert Brickworks, wartime experiences and more recent community history.

Twystory also maintains an extensive online resource where visitors can explore historic maps, newspaper reports, census information, family histories, photographs, notable residents, local buildings, wartime stories and a timeline tracing the area's history through to the present day.

Whether you have lived locally for generations, have family connections to the villages or simply enjoy discovering the stories behind the places around you, Twystory is a welcoming way to explore and help preserve our shared local history.
