What is Gift Aid?
A free government scheme that lets charities reclaim tax on donations - boosting your gift by 25% at no cost to you.
reclaimed for every £1 donated
no cost or action needed from you
backed government scheme
How does it work?
Gift Aid is a UK government scheme that allows registered charities to reclaim the basic rate Income Tax that you have already paid on your donation. Because you have paid tax on the money before donating it, the government lets the charity claim that tax back - meaning your donation is worth more, at no extra cost to you.
For every £1 you donate, Twyford Village Hall can reclaim an additional 25p from HMRC. On a £20 donation, that's an extra £5 for the hall - giving us £25 in total.

Who qualifies?
You can Gift Aid your donation if:
- You are a UK taxpayer
- You pay at least as much Income Tax or Capital Gains Tax as the charity will reclaim on your donations in the current tax year
- You are making a personal donation (not on behalf of a company or another person)
Important: If you are not a taxpayer, or if you pay less Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax than the amount of Gift Aid that charities claim on your donations, you must not tick the Gift Aid box. If your tax status changes, please let us know so we can update our records.
What does the charity need?
To claim Gift Aid, HMRC requires us to hold a signed Gift Aid declaration including your:
- Full name
- Home address (including postcode)
- Confirmation that you are a UK taxpayer
